Zoo Děčín

Děčín is a small town close to the German border. Only an hour and a half or so from Prague. And it sports a little unassuming zoo. The animals are scarce (especially when you’re used to bigger zoos like the one in nearby Ústí nad Labem, or even Prague). But there still is enough to keep a kid busy all morning there.

Děčín est une petite ville pas loin de la frontière Allemande. Une heure et demie à peine depuis Prague. Et il y a un petit zoo qui ne paie pas de mine. Les animaux sont peu nombreux (surtout quand on a l’habitude de zoos plus grands comme celui tout proche d’Ústí nad Labem, ou même Prague). Mais il y a quand même de quoi occuper un mioche une matinée.

There is a small aviary, so warm and damp that there is a “glasses dryer” in the entrance of the pavilion 😀

Il y a une petite volière, si chaude et humide qu’un “séchoir à lunettes” y est installé à l’entrée 😀

One sight I don’t see very often in zoos: yellow mongooses (mongeese?)

I was surprised to see that they had wildcats in there.

J’étais surpris de voir qu’ils avaient des chats sauvages.

There were a couple more animals, but nothing that I managed to capture, or worth shooting. I mean, they put a cage on the ground over a mound of dirt and labelled it “ants”. That’s getting a bit far fetched, is it not? Anyways, what the zoo lacks in quantity of animals, it makes for in their “kid” zone. Giant wooden castle, treewalking area, all slides have had their ladders replaced by climbing holds, and this:

Il y avait quelques animaux de plus, mais rien que j’aie réussi à photographier, ou en valant la peine. J’veux dire, ils ont mis une cage autour d’une motte de terre et l’ont étiquettée “fourmis”. Ça commence à tirer par les cheveux, là, non? Enfin bon, là où le zoo manque d’animaux, il compense dans leur aire de jeux. Château en bois géant, mini parcours d’accro-branche, toboggans dont les échelles ont été remplacées par des prises d’escalade, et ça:

You can actually do some bouldering in the zoo! Well, I suppose it’s for kids, but it doesn’t say adults are not allowed on this particular one 🙂

On peut carrément faire du bloc dans le zoo! Bon, j’imagine que c’est pour les gamins, mais c’est pas marqué que c’est interdit aux adultes 🙂
