Benjamin Franklin everywhere / Benjamin Franklin partout

You guys are going to remember it for sure: Philadelphia is all about Benjamin Franklin. And well, they can be proud of it. On top of having a bridge named after him, and an underground museum, he also has a big parkway, with the Philadelphia Museum of Art at one end.

And next to the other end, there’s the Benjamin Franklin Institute of Science. I like Science Centres everywhere, usually. Though I can honestly say that the one in the old Montréal is not that great. The one in Toronto is better, but does not even remotely compare to the Cité des Sciences in Paris. And the Franklin Institute of Sciences in Philadelphia? Well, just ask the big guy how it is:

Benjamin Franklin

Me? I won’t tell you. Not that I don’t know. But I kinda got too busy with the Philadelphia Museum of Art and Rodin Museum, almost all day. So by the time I get to the Franklin Institute of Science, Old Ben was looking at me, and pretty much saying “you dimwit, my institute closes at 5PM on Sundays. You should have come earlier!”

Moi?

But from the looks of it, it seemed pretty nice. They had a temporary exhibition, I’ll let you guess about what…

Pirate

I suppose Johnny Depp, Orlando Bloom and Keira Knightley are to thank for this worldwide renewed interest in Pirates… Because I doubt that it is because of fossilized ship remains that kids would want to see the exhibits (though, dorky as it may sound, I would be more interested by that than by a movie franchise…)

Fossilized ship remains

Oh well, the sun was still high up in the sky, there was still time for a stroll outside…

Bah, le soleil était encore bien haut, il me restait du temps pour me balader…

  1. The toronto center is good, but it is awfully big and really pricy…maybe we’ll make it to the one in Paris..but I suspect the galleries are going to get the first nod. Thanks for the tip though.

  2. Oreneta, everything is expensive in North America… almost :p. For the one in Paris, you can spend one full day and still have things to see there.
