Weekly Photo Challenge: Lost in the Details

The theme this week is “Lost in the Details”. Once again I had several things in mind, like some of the architectural details of Prague’s cathedral. Or even from some of the nice building people often miss in Prague because they forget to look up. And then the theme for Flickr Friday was announced as well: “Lost in the woods”. So instead, I decided to take a short hike in the woods, around… the Čertovy hlavy, the devils’ heads.

Le thème cette semaine est “Perdu dans les détails”. Une fois de plus j’avais plein d’idées, comme les détails architecturaux de la cathédrale de Prague. Ou bien de certains beaux bâtiments auxquels les gens ne font pas attention parce qu’ils oublient de lever la tête. Et puis le thème du Flickr Friday est sorti: “Perdu dans les bois”. Donc à la place, j’ai décidé de faire une petite balade dans les bois, autour des… Čertovy hlavy, les têtes de diables.

Remember? I told you about them before. And who knows, maybe I would see another slow worm “lost in the woods” :). Also, I was thinking, maybe the holes in the sandstone could hide some secret photographic treasure… I was hoping for maybe a small sprout clinging to the stone, lit by a single ray of light or something. And instead, I saw this:

Vous vous souvenez? Je vous en ai déjà parlé. Et qui sait, peut-être allais-je voir un autre orvet “perdu dans les bois” :). D’ailleurs, je me suis dit, peut-être que les trous dans le grès pourraient cacher quelque trésor photographique secret… J’espérais une jeune pousse s’accrochant à la roche, illuminée d’un unique rayon de soleil ou un truc du genre. Et à la place, j’ai vu ça:

This is at the base of the carved heads. Lovers, teenagers, tourists, over the years, carving names, dates, and initials into the sandstone, damaging the rock. And something caught my attention. Do you see it?

C’est la base des têtes sculptées. Amants, ados, touristes, au fil des ans, ont gravés noms, dates, et initiales dans le grès, abîmant la roche. Et quelque chose a attiré mon regard. Le voyez-vous?

On the very left side of the rock. Looks like the actual devil’s head that is carved onto the cliff. Some kind of indicator left by the author to identify his sculpture, maybe?

Tout à gauche du rocher. On dirait la tête du diable sculptée sur la falaise. Un genre d’indicateur laissé là par l’auteur pour identifier son œuvre, peut-être?

Now that I had my picture for the “Lost in the Details” theme, I wandered around in quest of my next picture. The sandstone cliffs create small narrow pathways in the woods, where you could easily appear trapped, or lost. Too bad I forgot to take a fancy model in high heels and red cape with me to stage a “Lost Little Red Riding Hood” picture :D. (Note to self: find fancy models for my next photo trips)

Maintenant que j’avais ma photo pour le thème “Perdu dans les Détails”, je me suis baladé un peu en quête de la photo suivante. Les falaises de grès forment de petits chemins étroits dans les bois, où l’on pourrait facilement avoir l’air pris au piège, ou perdu. Dommage que j’aie oublié d’emmener un mannequin tip top super classe à talons hauts et cape rouge pour improviser une séance “Petit Chaperon Rouge perdu” :D. (Note à moi-même: trouver des mannequins tip top super classe pour mes prochaines sorties photo)

Then, I liked this lone tree, “lost” in between the sandstone formations, in the middle of the woods. As paradoxical as it may sound, this tree was lost in the woods :).

Puis j’ai bien aimé cet arbre isolé, “perdu” entre les formations de grès, au milieu des bois. Aussi paradoxal que cela puisse paraître, cet arbre était perdu dans les bois :).

And as I walked around a bit more, getting further from the tourist attraction, a little bit of color caught my attention.

Et tandis que je marchais encore un peu, m’éloignant du sentier touristique, un petit bout de couleur a attiré mon attention.
