Not enough for skating / Pas assez pour patiner

One question that comes back often from people who hear I live in Czech Republic now is about the weather. Of course, there are some variations. In Toronto, people were asking: “How is it there? Is it as cold as in Toronto?”, whereas in France, people were rather asking: “Is it much much colder than here?”

And I had to reply with the usual “it’s a continental climate”, which should be plenty enough to give an indication. But then, I could give more examples, like the amount of snow I had on the car, or how it refused to start one morning. I haven’t been here long enough to have some kind of average value, but I would say it’s definitely colder than Paris, and I’ve seen worse in Canada. But still, the canal between the Vltava and the Lab behind the house never got frozen enough this winter so that we could skate on it and set up a  beavertails stand. How’s that for a comparison?

  1. HI!

    Nice to see a post!!!

Did you make it to Ottawa to go skiing, I think you did. Something I have never done yet. Though I have icecanoed there…maybe that counts for something.

    Cheers,

    O

Mmmm, beavertails…..wonder if there’s a recipe on line.

    • yeah, sorry about the lack of updates recently. I didn’t ski in Ottawa, but I skated on the canal. And had a beavertail on the frozen canal as well🙂.
      Recipe is easy:
      1) order ticket to any Québec airport, or Ottawa, or Toronto
      2) find beavertail stand
      3) order beavertail
