From PRG to YYZ, and back / De PRG à YYZ, aller-retour

The team I was working with during my time in Toronto was disbanded when I left the country (at the time, I had mixed feelings of “I knew it” and “We’ve just spent two years getting the team up to speed with our product and methodology, it’s sad to pull the plug on it now that things are working”).

L’équipe avec laquelle je travaillais pendant mon temps à Toronto a été dissoute quand j’ai quitté le pays (à l’époque, j’avais des sentiments mêlés de “Je l’savais” et “On a passé deux ans à mettre en place l’équipe et la rendre opérationnelle avec notre produite et méthodes de développement, c’est dommage de tout foutre en l’air maintenant que ça tourne”).

Almost two years and a couple of offshoring/outsourcing later, it’s been decided to rebuild a team with 4 members of the Toronto staff, who would be working on the product we’re developing in Paris (at the time of the announcement, I had mixed feelings of “I told you so” and “mwah ah ah ah ah ah ah I told you so”).

Presque deux ans ont passé et quelques offshoring/outsourcing plus tard, il fut décidé de reconstruire une équipe avec 4 personnes du personnel de Toronto, qui vont travailler sur le produit qu’on développe à Paris (lors de l’annonce, j’avais des sentiments mêlés de “J’vous l’avais dit” et “Bouah ah ah ah ah ah ah ah j’vous l’avais dit”).

In this new team, only one member is part of “ye olde” team from back then, and 2 years is a long time in Software, so there’s a big round of training that needs to be done. And my boss decided to kindly hit two birds with one stone, by allowing me to:

1. leave from my secluded Fortress Office of Solitude for a while
2. fly back to TO for three weeks as part of the training of Team TO 2.0

Dans la nouvelle équipe, seule une personne est une ancienne de l’équipe du “temps passé”, et 2 ans c’est long en Informatique, donc il y a une grosse floppée de formations à faire. Et mon chef a décidé de gentiment faire d’une pierre deux coups, en me permettant de:

1. sortir de ma Forteresse mon Bureau de la Solitude coupé du monde pour un moment
2. m’envoler trois semaines à TO pour la formation de l’équipe TO 2.0

It’s been a hectic week last week preparing things, confirming the Travel Requests in the System, getting the seal of approval of everybody on the planet and getting the plane tickets and hotel.

La semaine passée fut donc complètement folle à tout préparer, confirmer la demande officielle de voyage dans le système, obtenir l’approbation de la planète entière et obtenir les billets d’avion et la réservation d’hôtel.

I also thought I was going crazy when I couldn’t find the $CAD 180 that I was 100% I had left from Canada, that I kept “just in case” so that I can pay the Cab from the airport when I arrive, spent a whole evening looking for it through all my papers, only to remember after a short and agitated night that I exchanged those 4 months ago, thinking I wouldn’t get the opportunity to travel to TO for many years…

J’ai aussi cru que j’allais devenir chèvre quand je n’arrivais plus à retrouver mes 180 $CAD que j’étais sûr à 100% d’avoir gardés du Canada, “au cas où” pour pouvoir payer le taxi depuis l’aéroport en arrivant, ayant passé une soirée entière à chercher dans tous mes papiers, pour au final me souvenir après une nuit courte et agitée que je les ai échangés il y a 4 mois, pensant que je n’aurais de si tôt l’occasion de voyager à TO…

Ok, time for my beauty rest, I have to wake up at 5AM tomorrow morning.

Allez, c’est l’heure d’aller ronfler, j’me lève à 5h du mat’ demain matin, moi.
