Crossing the Bridge / Traversant le pont

When coming down from the Orloj, I discovered the name of this house that I liked so much: The Dům U Minuty (House of the Minute), where Franz Kafka lived for a while.

Curious about the Petřín, your faithful reporter goes through the old town, towards the little hill. Among the many nice buildings in the Staré Město (Old Town), this one caught my attention, with its very ornate facade…

Curieux à propos de Petřín, votre fidèle reporter entreprit de parcourir la vieille ville, en direction de la petite colline. Parmi les beaux batiments de la Staré Město (Vieille Ville), celui-ci attira mon attention, avec sa façade très décorée…

Formerly an iron shop, it is now a luxury hotel in the heart of Prague… But the name of the original shop owner is still painted on the wall 😉

Auparavant une ferronnerie, c’est aujourd’hui un hotel luxueux au coeur de Prauge… Mais le nom du propriétaire d’origine est toujours peint sur le mur 😉

And then, comes in sight the Staroměstská mostecká věž (Old Town bridge tower), marking one end of the Karlův most (Charles Bridge). Despite the time of the day, let’s bathe in the crowd, and in history, a little bit 😉

Puis arrive en vue la Staroměstská mostecká věž (tour du pont de la Vieille Ville), marquant une extrêmité du Karlův most (pont Charles). Malgré l’heure de la journée, allons prendre un bain de foule, et d’histoire, un petit peu 😉

On that bridge, many painters and “artists” will try to sell you paintings, and the usual gadgets for tourists that annoy so many of the locals. And despite the bad weather, some brave men were trying to brighten people’s mood, with a little music 😉

Sur ce pont, nombre de peintres et “artistes” tentent de vous vendre peintures, et bidules habituels pour touristes qui irritent tant les habitants. Et malgré le mauvais temps, quelques braves hommes tentaient de remonter le moral des gens, avec un peu de musique 😉

By the way, did you know that Karlův most is the oldest stone bridge in Prague? And on this oldest bridge, the oldest statue is the one of Sv Jan Nepomcuký (St John Nepomuk), a national Saint of Bohemia who according to legend, was thrown in the Vltava by order of King Václav, because he refused to divulge the secrets the Queen told her in the confessional.

D’ailleurs, saviez-vous que le Karlův most est le plus vieux pont de pierre de Prague? Et sur ce plus vieux pont, la plus vieille statue est celle de Sv Jan Nepomcuký (St Jean Népomucène), un saint national de Bohême qui d’après la légende, fut jeté dans la Moldau sur ordre du Roi Václav, pour avoir refusé de divulguer les secrets que la Reine lui avait confiés dans le confessional.

It has become traditional to touch the base of the statue to bring good fortune, or even grant you some wishes. That’s why you can see those two clean and golden spots there, where people touched it. Come on, make a wish…
